A portable ultrasonic flow meter for measuring flow in pipes. Portable clamp-on sensors are attached to the outside of the pipe in a non-invasive manner and the volume flow is measured without interrupting the process. Transit ultrasonic clamp-on flow meters measure flow using ultrasonic wave travel time. One wave is sent from an upstream to downstream transducer, and another wave is sent from the downstream to upstream transducer. The difference between the two travel times is used to calculate flow velocity.
